Crack that SECC2 Cartridge open! by Dean Barker (11/30/1999)
All of us know heat is the enemy.
Anything that holds heat and keeps chipsets hot is working against our goal.
Slapping on a quality aftermarket heatsink/fan will always help. But
when it comes down to squeezing that last mhz out of your chip the little
things add up. Some are not such little things, like this for example.
First thing we need to do is trash that pesky fan shroud. Fairly straightforward operation. On each of the four corners of it you will see that by squeezing in the plastic retaining clips the shroud will come right off.
To replace the stock unit we are going to use a Global Win VGSO8H heatsink/fan unit. There are better units out there but not many for under $20.
Notice the plastic clips circled in yellow. These are pushpin style holders that connect the sink to the chip and casing.
