Albatron GeForce 6600 - 512

Image Quality

Rounding things our are a couple of screen shots from Half Life 2 and HL2: The Lost Coast.  Both of the images below were taken with the screen resolution set to 1600 x 1200 with all settings set to max to include ingame settings of 6x FSAA and 16x AF.  While the images look good and are clearly on par with every other mid range card I've ever seen they seem to be missing a little something that our GeForce 7800 GTX wasn't.  But then again, that's a $450 card so you should expect a bit of an edge.

Conclusion

Summing things up for the Albatron GeForce 6600 - 512 was much more difficult than I thought.  After a lot of consideration, the word I was looking for came to me which was 'ambitious.'  The Albatron 6600 - 512 was an ambitious undertaking on the part of Albatron.  The GeForce 6x series is being phased out but remains a solid player in the mid range market.  Trying to add on half a gig of memory to this card really gets the glam attention Albatron wanted.  It's just too bad it wasn't on the faster GT version of the 6600 which may have really made some desirable sparks.  However, on the flip side of that is cost; if you go adding too much on a base $130 product such as the 6600 GT, you price it out of its class, effectively killing it.  Albatron recognized this, hence the scaled back 6600 core getting all that lov'n.  While the new 6600 - 512 isn't a bad card; at the end of the day a much faster card can be had for $130 and that is just too tough an act to follow.  Especially if that act is within the same company such as Albatron.  Kudos to Albatron for the effort and the innovative thinking to try new things.
