Battlefield 2

First up is Battlefield 2.  (My personal fav. and that would be Gunnery Sergeant OCC-Profit now thank you very much.)  Starting the game up in single player mode on the Zatar Wetlands map we recorded the frames per second over the space of 200 seconds using FRAPS To keeps the graphical intensity to the video card as high as possible, we played our trials in the light jeep circling around and through each of the control points.  The game settings were adjusted in all aspects to max quality at 1600 resolution.

As you can see, we did list out the minimum, maximum and average frame rates recorded.  At no time did the game lag or hang.  Nothing but pure smoothness.  Looking at the graph you can see that except for the very first frame of the recorded set, did the frame rates drop below the magic 30 mark.  (The human eye cannot track more than 30 frames per second.)

Quake 4

As we did with Battlefield 2, we attempted to max out the quality settings but we did so in both "High" and "Ultra" quality settings within Quake 4.  We varied a bit here because the Ultra settings within Quake 4 and Doom 3 requires 500mb of texture memory and isn't exactly a high quality setting many folks will be using.  All other settings with the exception of 'High' and 'Ultra' were maxed.  The option for antialaising = 16x was selected for both in 1600 resolution in the MCC Landing Site map.  First up is the 'High' setting.

Quake 4 has an in game 60 frame per second cap as is clearly visible from the graph above.  Gameplay was absolutely flawless.  The minimum recorded frame rate was 14 frames per second and to be honest, I have no idea when the frame rates dropped as I didn't perceive a single shutter.  Let's tap things out with the 'Ultra' setting.

Much more of a hit here in performance.  With the Ultra settings enabled at 1600 resolution, our game was playable but had that half a hair off beat quality that you couldn't quite put your finger on.  Something akin to really good dubbing of a foreign movie.  To be sure I'm leaving you with the right idea here, not many cards at all can handle these settings to a playable level.  I know that the Radeon X850XT in my LAN box coughs up blood at this setting.  So even though, I'm commenting on some minimal objective hesitancy, it is important to keep things in context.
