Chaintech GeForce SA6600G (6600 GT)

Performance

To try and look at the 6600 GT in a somewhat different light, we are going to compare the NVidia high end midrange product with the low side of the high end line up, the GeForce 6800.  With the 6600 GT being priced $100 less on average than the 6800 we have to wonder what the difference in performance is.  Today, let's try and find out.

Our test suite is being limited to everyone's two favorite graphics intensive games, Half Life 2 and Doom3.  Our test were run in two settings, speed and quality.  These settings were made within the game environment's internal parameters.  Doom3 will be run in its internal setting of Low Quality and Ultra Quality.  Half Life2 will be run with all settings to high.  The speed run will be at 0xFSAA and Trilinear filtering versus the quality run at 6xFSAA and 16x Anisotropic Filtering.  NVidia drivers used will be the v66.93s.  Each graphed benchmark result is the average of five runs per bench with the highest and lowest scores being thrown out first.

Results

Starting things out is Half Life2.  Using the Canals and the Coast demos we benched the cards with the FSAA and AF turned off and other details defaulted to high within the game's setting menu.  As you can see below, the Chaintech 6600GT really held its own here.  Matching its bigger brother frame for frame for the most part.
