Sometimes a really bad day can be turned right around by one simple occurrence. A few weeks back I was having one of those days where everything just seemed to go wrong and I would have bet anything that nothing could happen to turn it around. After the Fed-Ex guy paid me a visit my entire day turned around. The HIS' Excalibur X800XT VIVO Limited Edition video card I had been wanting to get my hands on was here.

Sure, there has been a slew of X800XT reviews out there, but those are all AGP versions, we're talking PCI-Express Baby! Being able to be one of the first people to actually get a chance at putting something like this through it's paces is just flat out exciting to say the least.

  • Powered by ATi's X800 GPU (RV423, PCI Express version)

  • Core Speed: 500MHz

  • 256MB GDDR3 memory

  • Memory Speed: 1GHz

  • 0.13micron low-k fabrication process

  • Sixteen parallel pixel pipelines

  • Six pixel shader pipelines

  • PCI-Express interface

  • Smoothvision HD

  • Videoshader HD

  • Hyper-Z HD

  • Dual Integrated RAMDAC's at 400MHz

  • Full support for DX9

  • Maximum Resolution: 2048x1536 @85Hz

  • VIVO Video Capture

  • VGA, TV-Out and DVI supported

  • Platinum Pack software bundle

What you get:

Besides the card of course, the Platinum Pack Edition comes with a load of extras which is part of it's appeal. The software bundle alone is worth quite a few smackers and includes several items I use on a regular basis. In addition to the driver CD we have a full version of Counter Strike: Condition Zero game, a 5-in-1 game CD, Video Studio 7 SE, and 3D-Album Picture Pro.

The cables include your S-Video, VIVO and HDTV cable. Also included is a conversion cable (Mini-Din to RCA) and DVI to VGA adaptor.
