Inno3D GeForce 9600 GT Hurricane

Next up is a new game in our test suite, Unreal Tournament 3.  UT3 has been out for a short while and is another DX9 based game.  It's graphics engine has a lot to challenge any VGA card however.  Using the Defiance map with 12 bots in Deathmatch we took a look at our card's performance.  All settings within the game were set to max with FSAA turned off.  Screen resolution is set to 1920 x 1440.

   Min  Max  Avg
8800 GT 38 97 66
9600 GT 37 72 57

Again Inno3D's middleweight shows that it has something to prove.  While it didn't show the high frame spikes we saw with it's big brother, it remained true with an average frame rate just under 60FPS.

Now it's time for the system buster.  Crysis in DX10 is a different animal than DX9.  The pixel pushing cost from this was quite a lot.  So much so that we had to decrease our screen resolution to 1024 x 768 just to keep the game smooth throughout.  All settings were set to 'high' with the exception of FSAA which again was kept off.

   Min  Max  Avg
8800 GT 26 86 53
9600 GT 22 61 43

For a middleweight to take on Crysis at max settings (albeit 1024 resolution) really drives the point home about the power of the 9600 GT GPU.  Aside from a barely noticeable few bumps in the game, play was relatively smooth keeping over the dreaded 30FPS for the most part throughout.
