Inno3D GeForce 6800

Performance

In order to give you a good reference point for the performance of the Inno3D GeForce 6800, we are going to test it with a Radeon 9800XT and an NVidia GeForce 5950 Ultra.  The Inno3D card is actually the least expensive of the three coming in at $299.  Can you actually pay less and get more?

Our benchmark suite consists of Far Cry, Unreal Tournament 2004, Doom3, Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, Quake3 and Code Creatures.  I believe this is a fairly representative sample of the most popular game titles out now in addition to the synthetic benchmark of Code Creatures.  Each bench was run five times per product with the highest and lowest of these scores being thrown out.  The remaining three were then averaged which is what you see here.  ATi's Catalyst 4.8 and NVidia's Detonators v61.77 drivers were used.  Without further delay let's see what we can see.

Test Bed

AOpen AK86-L (K8T800) Mainboard
• AMD Athlon 64 3000
• (2) 256 mb sticks of Corsair XMS3500
• (2) Maxtor 80gb SATA HDD (RAID 0)
• Generic DVD/CD-RW
• Generic 52x CD-ROM
• Windows XP Professional with all patches and service packs installed.

Results

Starting us out is Far Cry (my new favorite game) with the Fort Demo.  Using the BenchEmAll! program to obtain individual scores we tested my newest fav in 1024, 1280 and 1600 resolution.

Not too wild of a spread.  Frankly, I was surprised at how the 5950 Ultra was lagging behind.  I think this shows us that ATi has really gotten it together in the driver department and that NVidia is focusing hard on their new 6800 line.
