Antec LANBOY Mini-tower Aluminum Case

Manufacturer: Antec
Supplier: ATACOM

By Dean Barker (4/3/2003)

Introduction

Antec has long been known for their high end aluminum enclosures sporting lots of features and good looks at a reasonable price.  I suppose they thought it was time for an expansion of their line.  The standard mid-tower case is the staple of many case manufacturers.  Ample space is desirable for the needs of most, with the exception of the LAN party crowd.  Recently, I attended a LAN party and decided to take a pretty tricked out box.  This box was based around a Lian Li PC-6089 with the Aquarium Window.  Walking from my car to the party, the bulk and splashing water of my box really made me rethink what makes a “perfect LAN box.”   LANers put more emphasis on compactness and being portable over many other features for what are obvious reasons, that I figured out the hard way.  The Antec LANBOY makes a go at incorporating compact size with features to satisfy this often ignored part of the market.  We want to extend our thanks to ATACOM for providing us a sample of one of Antec’s latest wares.

In looking at the LANBOY the small size immediately elicits your interest.  This is the second mini-tower case we have looked at here.  The first was the X-Sonic unit which as you will see, is based on the exact same chassis as the LANBOY.  Let’s look at some case specs.
