Introduction

Kingwin has been around since 1992 producing primarily heatsinks and drive racks.  Over the past year or two they have been expanding their product lines to include a wide range of products.  Kingwin put out their first high end case in May of 2002, the KT-436 and KT-436-WM.  Both cases were well received by the hardware community due to the long list of features and the quality of their construction.  Here we are a year later and Kingwin has made some changes and has a new flagship case, the KT-424.  As you will soon see the KT-424 puts into place many more things than just a face lift.  Today we are fortunate enough to have a look at one of these new cases for a lap around the track.  We want to extend our thanks to Kingwin for making this review possible.  Let's start things off with some specs.

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 508 (D) x 218 (W) x 450 (H) mm

  • Size: Mid Tower

  • Material Aluminum Alloy

  • Drive Bays 4 x 5.25"; 3 x 3.5"; 4 x 3.5" (Hidden)

  • Intake Filter

  • USB x 2 front accessible ports

  • Firewire x 1 front accessible port

  • Case Fans: Three 80mm Case Fans

  • Rheostat controlled front fan speed

  • Slide Out Motherboard tray

  • Tool free drive rails

  • 3.5" drive vibration dampening

Starting at the front bezel, we can see that Kingwin has moved to more of a clean line look for the KT-424.  Gone is the colored acrylic colored front bezel cover and the accompanying oversized mounting screws for it.  What we have are four 5.25" and two 3.5" drive bays and a finely blue tinted intake fan cover made of a wire mesh of sorts.
