Lian Li PC-6089A Aluminum Case

By Dean Barker (8/3/2002)

Introduction

Lian Li has become a geek-hold word representing high end aluminum cases.  It's no wonder, with them being the first to really pioneer the aluminum case market beyond having something trendy.  They focused on functionality and features.  Now that they have made their mark with some of the most useable feature rich cases around, they are back tracking to try and add in that trendy piece that got left behind.

When I say trendy, I mean catering to the case mods / LAN party crowd who want to show off more than the average bear.  Superficially, from the looks of the PC-6089A, Lian Li may just be striking the trendy mark.  Special thanks the crew over at Lian Li for sending their latest model over to us.

Let's see what we have here?

  • USB port: Dual standard USB front port

When you first look at the 6089A there is no way you cannot notice the translucent light blue acrylic door covering the front bezel.  This is the first stab at trendy on the box and it hits the mark much more so than just another Chieftec style drive bay door.

As you may remember from our Lian Li PC-6083 review, the twin blue strips on either side of the drive bays are also blue acrylic but they light up when the power is on.  I am sort of anxious to see what this will look like behind a translucent door.

Opening the door up you see the standard power and reset buttons as well as a power LED and HDD activity lamp.  You also have the rapidly becoming standard two USB ports.  These are billed to support USB 2.0.
