RaidMax X-1 Gaming Case Our last stop here is the front intake fan mounting area. A choice between an 80, 90 or 120mm fans to suit your fancy. Here is a quick shot of the opposite side of the drive racks that have the same tool free drive system. Lots of recessed space here to nip and tuck wires out of view. In the second shot below is the removable drive tray. The tray is removed via the right side panel side after removal of a single case screw on the rear of the X-1. The tray then slid out with minimal effort. Kudos to Raidmax for making the thermal probe serving the LCD display of the thin tipped variety. A thin long wire line would have been best but having the thin tip goes a long way in itself. Clear for action and beat to quarters Dropping in an Intel Northwood based system we were pleased with the way the Raidmax X-1 accommodated the board, cards and drives. Everything went in without incident. What I thought confusing was that the X-1's box has the display shown in degrees Celsius and our test unit displayed it in degrees Fahrenheit. I thought I'd find a Celsius to Fahrenheit toggle somewhere but I did not. Perhaps this is something preset at the factory. The fan icon cycles lights in a fan like motion that a still photo just doesn't catch. The fan display also incorporates an audio alarm in the even of a fan failure. The HDD activity and power indicators display activity as you would expect. Conclusion The Raidmax X-1 expands Raidmax's standard line of features one step further with the bezel mounted LCD function display. The display does a excellent job at giving the end user information without breaking up the lines of the X-1. The tool free drive system and ability to utilize a variety of front intake fan sizes bring out the broad appeal of the Raidmax X-1 that much more. Style wise, taste rests in the eyes of the beholder. For me, some of the touches were a bit much but that is only my subjective opinion. On the con side which was very short indeed, was the lack fan mounts for the right side panel and the apparent inability to switch the front display's readout from Fahrenheit to Celsius. Other that this, the Raidmax X-1 is a worth product that will make the short list for many an upgrade. Pricing is reported to me to be $79 (USD) which seems about right. All in all, the X-1 is a product we can fully recommend to you. Again, thanks go to Raidmax for making this review possible. Pros
