Sunbeamtech Acrylic HTPC Case

Laying everything out for the parts check we see not only what goes physically into the kit but the attention to detail by the manufacturer.  Notice how all the hardware is separated into individual bags that are each labeled.

Included with the Sunbeam Acrylic HTPC case are four 80mm LED case fans.  What is nice about these fans is that they are ultra violet LED units.  Installation of these in our UV Reactive Blue case should give us a nice treat in the end.  The fans are powered off three pin connectors but have four pin Molex adapters as well.

The Build

Sunbeam offers their kit with either transparent or a UV reactive blue panels.  Our review unit today is the UV reactive blue meaning that it is clear until exposed to ultra violet lighting when it will glow blue.

Starting the build time clock we began laying the acrylic panels and hardware out to get started.  Construction was straight forward with clear and concise instructions.  First in we have two HDD racks with each able to hold four drives.  The optical/FDD bay rack attaches via two thumb screws at the bottom allowing easy access to drives later.  The panels are constructed of 4mm and 5mm thick panels.

Fan and front access port panel installation went well and offered no issues.  Nor did the installation of the rearward sections of the Sunbeam Acrylic HTPC case.

Here is everything all done.  Total build time = 45 minutes.  Obviously, installing a system will add in an extra 15 or so.  Each of the front 80mm fans are set so as to blow fresh air on the two four drive racks.  DIY folks will have a variety of options for this but I would have like to have seen Sunbeam put some filters on those intake fans.  The normal dust accumulated within any PC can add up in time but in an acrylic case it won't look pretty.

This was a nice extra.  Sunbeam has designed their case so that a removable bar runs across the width of the interior.  This bar as small slits in it allowing for installation of the fourth 80mm UV LED fan.  The fan may be positioned from just left of the right side rack all the way to the left edge of the case giving the end user the option of custom air flow where they need it.  The fan and this bracket can also be removed and not used at all if you so choose.
