Xoxide Z40 Insight Case Manufacturer:
Xoxide By Dean Barker (5/7/2002) Introduction Xoxide is no stranger to mass produced modified cases. Several lines of their wares have become quite popular and for good reason. Today, we have the Xoxide Z40 case up on the bench to see what’s what. The Z40 is specifically aimed at the large discriminating customer who wants to get every bit they can out of their dollar. Priced at $45, the Z40 does just that. Let’s take a look and you can see why. Xoxide has broken from the mold of all aluminum cases with the Z40. Steel is cheaper to produce than aluminum and when done right, doesn’t make a case weigh in at 30 pounds. The Z40 weighs in at the same mark as many aluminum cases at 5.5 kg. This is due to the thin gauge of the metal as well as the lack of extras such as a removable mainboard tray or drive cages combined with a windowed side panel. With a clean black paint job on top of the steel, at a glance, you would assume this was a much pricier big name box. The Z40 is available in black or white color schemes with the traditional white being a couple of bucks cheaper. Let’s look at some specs before we move on. Specifications
Starting at the front bezel, we see a standard midtower set up with four 5.25” and two 3.5” bays. The power, reset, and hard drive activity lamps are centered in the lower portion of the bezel providing for a clean symmetrical look. The long slits on either side of the buttons are fresh air vents feeding two 80mm case fans.
