Enzotech Ultra-X Cooler by Dean Barker (11/23/2008)
Introduction Enzotech is well known for their wide variety of quality copper heatsinks. These units are mainly for memory chips, Northbridge chipsets and MOSFETs. However, Enzotech does produce a number of other products for both water and air cooling applications. Today, we have the Enzotech Ultra-X CPU cooler on our bench for a once over. The Enzotech Ultra-X Cooler is far from a new product. It has been out for a good eighteen months but superficially from the looks of things, it should pack quite a punch. Let's jump right in and see what I mean but not before thanking EnzoTech and Sidewinder Computers for sponsoring this review. Specifications
What you get The Enzotech Ultra-X Cooler fits a number of different platforms for both Intel and AMD. The unit also weighs in at 819 grams making secure mounting of critical importance. Included with the Enzotech Ultra-X we have several robust mounting brackets in addition to a small rheostat that mounts in an empty rear expansion slot. Also in the package was a very nice bonus in the form of a tube of Arctic Silver 5 paste. Call me sir! Things this big generally have me call them sir. As you saw in the specs, not only is the Ultra-X large (an observed 152 x 125 x 115mm) it tipped our scales at 819 grams. That is one big cooler. Four large 8mm copper heatpipes connect the Enzotech's tier construction of the Ultra-X's base and fin assembly. This massive fin assembly is covered up top by a 120mm variable rate fan. Enzotech reports the fan to operate at 1000 to 2500 RPM making for 39 to 99 CFM of air flow at a cost of 15.8 to 43.3 decibels. This is all manual as well. The included rheostat mounts in an unused expansion slot cover so the turn of a knob can give you the raw cooler performance or the silence you wish.
