Introduction

Gigabyte, long associated with quality motherboards has expanded their line up over the past couple of years to include coolers, cases, water cooling kits, video cards and lots of other accessories.  One of their newer coolers, the 3D Rocket II Cooler sports two fans on top of enough cooling fins that the entire assembly looks like a flapjack buffet.  From first glance this cooler looks like an absolute beast.  Today, the good people of Gigabyte have sponsored a review of the Gigabyte 3D Rocket II Cooler so we can have a closer look and see if it has the performance to match its monster looks.

What you get

The Gigabyte 3D Rocket II Cooler is a universal fit unit, meaning it fits all current Intel and AMD applications.  As such there is a variety of mounting hardware included with the cooler as you can see below.  You also get some extra UV reactive rubber rings that mount on top of the cooler to add some extra flash which you'll see more closely in a few.  A manual, tube of thermal paste, power cable extension and rheostat unit round out the box's contents.

The Unit

In the specifications when we said the 3D Rocket II was 158mm tall, I'm not sure that really captures how large this unit is.  It was so large in fact that I had accepted it as a matter of course that the unit wouldn't fit in a case because of this height.  This was proven to be false at installation however.
