Kingwin Cooling Line Up for 2007 The Kingwin KA-9225 is no small cooler. Holding it in your hand it looks like (and is) basically a brick of convection fins. The approximately 60 aluminum fins are machined well and mate up nicely. Two large clips on each side hold a 90mm blue LED cooling fan in place. When you stop to consider the raw amount of surface area with direct air being blown across it, the KA-9225 looks very promising indeed. The convection fins are centrally mounted onto four copper heatpipes coming up from the base. The heatpipes are nicely spaced so as to provide excellent heat distribution but also structural integrity to our "tall stack" of convection fins. The base lays approximately 25mm below the fins and is constructed entirely of copper. The contact plate is a respectable 5mm thick and reasonably smooth to the touch. Some imperfections could be felt but nothing thermal paste couldn't overcome. With a street price of $28 as listed at NewEgg here, The KA-9225 offers a lot of smart cooling features for the money. We will have to see how the rubber meets the road in our testing. Before that, let's look at the other coolers as well. Kingwin KA-9226ACU Cooler (Street Price: $39) Specifications
The KA-9226ACU being called robust would be a major understatement. Weighting in at 845 grams on our scales, this is one cooler that I wouldn't even consider without a very secure motherboard mounting system which thank goodness it has. The fin assembly is constructed from copper with a shroud on the top and two sides. This aluminum shroud holds the 90mm blue LED cooling fan that is sandwiched between two banks of all copper fins. Air is pulled over and through one bank and then out and over the other with the shroud keeping the air channeled properly. |
