Swiftech MCX-370

The third design change is the screws that hold the fan to the heatsink. On the MC-370 the fan mounting screws attached through the lower fan mounting holes. (See Pic Below)

This may seem like a trivial issue but to reach the mounting screw only a smaller screwdriver would fit through the upper hole. The thing here is that the screw had a larger head that the smaller screw driver just could not grip properly. This was easily rectified by drilling out the top hole to the proper size but who wants to have to drill a new sink? Swiftech must have read my and the minds of others by running the screws through both upper and lower fan holes then into the sink. Nice pick up guys!  The fan screw holes in the heatsink's base are cut completely though the sink, making it possible to use smaller fans or to operate without the grommet and still have a tight fit.  This is a change from the MC-370 where the screw holes only went partway through the base.

As far as the base goes, I think that shine says it all about the quality of flatness here.  No lapping needed on this jobber.

Enough about what is different and possibly improved, what is the same? One thing that remains unchanged is the mainboard mounting clip. This is the best clip around because the design makes it virtually impossible to smash the core. This is done through the use of compression springs. The clips are adjusted into place by a Philips head screwdriver. When you tighten things, too much force will only compress the spring. The other major benefit, besides being so easy to use, of the clip is that the design immediately lends itself for easy installation of a Peltier unit. The instructions that accompany the MCX-370 actually show the sink's installation WITH a Peltier. No riser clips or elaborate mounts needed for you TEC guys. Another benefit of this type of clip mechanism is that a row of fins or rods is not lost down the middle of the heatsink that would happen with a traditional clipping mechanism. 

    

With all this attention to detail we see Swiftech giving it is no wonder that their quality sets the standard others measure themselves to.
