Manufacturer:
ThermalRight By Dean Barker (7/19/2002) Introduction When we last saw a ThermalRight around here, it was in the form of the SK-6. At that time, the SK-6 took everyone by storm with excellent performance only rivaled by the Swiftechs. That was about a year ago. Since then, we have seen the AX-7s around and of late the return of the SK-6 sink design. This time however, the principle of bigger is better is employed. Bigger sink and bigger fan.. if you want. What this means is that the SLK-800 can take 60mm, 70mm, or 80mm fans of varying heights. While a novel concept that is certainly noteworthy but who is gonna put a small fan on a fat sink? Versatility is great but hey, if you're gonna be a bear, be a grizzly! Thanks to the good folks at ThermalRight we are gonna see just how loud this bear can growl. The packaging from ThermalRight was a large, thick cardboard logo box molded to keep the sink from moving around and being damaged during shipping. This is important and you will see why in a moment. With a solid copper sink, oxidation is a major concern. The SLK-800 came in a sheath of plastic to lessen the risk of any moisture marring the product. Let's unwrap this puppy and see what we have. Specifications
The main body of the sink is comprised of 34 thin fins that taper from a wide 87mm to a slightly smaller 57.5mm at the base. The fins had a mirror like polish about them. So much so in fact that we could read by reflection off of them. To give you some idea of how much bigger the SLK-800 is, below is a shot of it next to the SK-6. Quite a difference eh?
