Introduction

About five years ago, a brand new company named Thermaltake released a cooler named the Golden Orb.  This cooler in a short time turned the industry on its head.  This cooler along with the famous Alpha PAL/PEP coolers and ThermoEngine, proved to the world that smart cooling was better cooling.  Its then radical design broke away from the traditional thinking that increased air flow was the only way to cool a processor more.  What's more is that this new cooler was also priced considerably less than the other performance oriented heatsinks on the market.  Computer processor cooling took on a new course and has never looked back to the benefit of us all. 

A successful product or movie cannot go long without a sequel.  Sporting a similar design but much larger body size, the Tt Golden Orb II looks to make an effort to continue the Orb's name here in 2005.  The question that remains, like the sequels to all movies, is will this be a worthwhile product or a flop?  Read on and let's take a look at the latest Thermaltake cooler, the Golden Orb II.

What you get

The Tt Golden Orb II comes packaged in a clear plastic package designed to hang on the walls of stores.  (Sorry, no picture - glare.)  Inside you can see the Golden Orb II winking at you in all its glory.  Opening things up we find the Orb, mounting hardware for Intel and AMD platforms, a blister pack of generic white thermal grease and some well laid out installation instructions with lots of clear images.  Let me mention something before we move on, the Orb is designed for the LGA775 and K8 processors.  Athlon XP and Pentium 4 (478 pin) owners... sorry you are out of luck.
