Thermaltake SubZero4G TEC for P4

As you have now surmised, there is LOTS of potential for Peltiers with CPU cooling.  The trick has been to keep it not too hot or cold as we noted in paragraph one.  Thermaltake has put out their SubZero4G unit.  This is a variable rate Peltier that has three levels; 4w, 15w, and 73w.  Those of you who have been around the block are already thinking that a 73 watt Peltier isn't a super cooling home run king.  And they would be right; it's not nor is it supposed to be.  The SubZero4G units are designed in the same thinking as the Tt Aquarius II H2O kit, very good cooling but the emphasis is on being quiet.  Let's take a look at the SubZero4G for the Pentium 4 by starting out with some specs.

Specifications

TEC Unit

  • Application: Intel Pentium 4

  • Observed Dimensions: 87 x 70 x 80mm (L x W x H)

  • Observed Weight: 550 grams

  • Material: Aluminum Construction

  • Fan: 70 x 70 x 15mm Variable Rate

  • Fan Speed: Variable Rate up to 4800 RPM.

  • Air Flow: Variable Rate up to 35.3 CFM.

  • Noise: Dependent on fan speed, range 21 - 38 dBA.

  • Connector: Three pin to PCI PSU/Microprocessor

  • Power Consumption: Three stage TEC unit at 4w, 15w, and 73w.

PCI PSU/Microprocessor Card

  • Observed Dimensions: 190 x 116 x 22mm

  • Observed Weight: 391 grams

  • Input Voltage: 90 ~ 240 VAC, 50 ~ 60Hz

Case Fan

  • Observed Dimensions: 80 x 80 x 25mm Tri-LED (Blue)

  • Observed Weight: 76.5 grams

  • Fan: 80 x 80 x 25mm Three Step Variable Rate

  • Fan Speed: Variable Rate up to 2000 RPM

  • Air Flow: Variable Rate up to 27.8 CFM

  • Noise: Variable Rate up to 21 dBA

  • Voltage: Three-step microprocessor-controlled: 6, 8, 12 VDC, control according to PC ambient temperature and CPU temperature

  • Connector: Four pin to PCI PSU/Microprocessor

The packaging of the SubZero4G spells out a quick install time (they claim under 90 seconds) and diminished noise so there will be no confusion.  Inside the package you have the SubZero4G TEC unit/HSF, Microprocessor/PSU unit, Tri-light Blue LED case fan, hardware, and a manual.  We found the manual straight forward and easy to follow.

Let's start off with the Microprocessor/PSU unit.
