Thermaltake Volcano 11 Manufacturer: Thermaltake
Technology By Dean Barker (2/20/2003) Introduction Its been a short while since we played with heatsinks around here. In that time Thermaltake has seen fit to release a new version of the Volcano line. We are up to the Volcano 11 now. (Was there a V10?) With the Volcano 11, the biggest change is a shift from a copper core as on the Volcano 9, to a solid copper base and fins. Some other changes were made but these are mainly cosmetic with the exception of the stuff that comes with the sink. Let's start out with the packaging. On the bottom of the box is a small window you can look at the thickness of the base and fins. I like being able to see what I'm buying before I buy it. Also on the package front (right pic) is a fairly bold statement of what Tt thinks of the capabilities of the Volcano 11. "Application for AMD Athlon XP up to 3400+." Included with the Volcano 11 is a bunch of cool stuff. The fan mounted to the sink is a Tt Smart Fan 2. The Rheostats we usually see with the Smart Fans are gone. Replacing it is an expansion slot cover with the Rheo smack dab in the center. A thermal probe for attachment to the fan, a Molex connector adapter with RPM wire, some double sided thermal tape and some silicon thermal paste are thrown in for good measure. Now on to the main event.
