Corsair TwinX 1024-3200XL Pro

Checking the BIOS, the memory did indeed default to it's stated latencies of 2-2-2-5. However, since my IC7-Max3 doesn't offer the option of 2.75 volts, it popped it up to 2.8, which is a bit of a fudge but keeping this voltage setting consistent throughout all testing we're good to go.

Using SiSoft Sandra Pro 2004's Memory Bandwidth benchmark, we compared the results to those of our standard Corsair PC3200, which defaults to latencies of 2-3-3-6. On the left we have Corsair's 3200XL, with normal 3200 being on the right.

As you can see, the reduced latencies do indeed have an impact. With such tight timings, the Corsair 3200XL easily outstrips it's predecessor.

Overclocking

We'll overclock this memory in two ways. The first thing we'll do is see just how much it can handle with the timings at 2-2-2-5, then we'll loosen things up and let it eat.

I must say that I'm surprised that we got anything out of this memory at such tight timings. But we were able to push the ceiling to 220MHz on the FSB and stayed completely stable. This in itself is an accomplishment.

Now lets loosen timings to 2.5-3-3-7 and see if it can indeed hit the DDR500 speeds.

Well, there you have it. With loose timings, this memory can really rock. Pushing this bad boy up to 251MHz we were completely stable. Anything beyond this gave us trouble.
