Corsair TwinX1024 XMS4400 CAS 2.5 Memory The Unit The Corsair TwinX 1024 - XMS4400C25 (the C25 means CAS 2.5) are offered with either black or silver colored aluminum heatspreaders. On the right side of the DIMM is a holographic sticker identifying the specs of the unit. Hiding underneath the heatspreaders are Samsung chips. Surprisingly, the Samsung factory data sheet rates these to operate 500MHz at CAS 3. For Corsair to have these in their 550MHz CAS 2.5 product, speaks volumes for Corsair's screening process. Corsair has always prided themselves on system testing EVERY unit they make to ensure quality. I'd say this proves it. Performance To measure the performance of the Corsair XMS4400C25 modules we are going to compare them directly with their CAS 3 predecessors. This will be done through benchmarks with the Memory Bandwidth Benchmark included with SiSoft Sandra 2004 Pro, CPU-Z, Super Pi, Far Cry, Doom3 and UT2004. Each benchmark will be run five times with the highest and lowest scores being thrown out. The remaining three will then be averaged and graphed below. Test voltage for both units was 2.75 volts. With all other things being equal we are actually testing to see how much faster CAS 2.5 is over CAS 3 since the tRCD, tRP and tRAS settings are the same. Test Bed Let's start off by confirming what Corsair says. The first screen below is CPU-Z showing the memory speed/timings. |
