OCZ EL PC4000 Platinum XTC Memory Kit (2GB) by Dean Barker (3/23/2006)
Introduction One of OCZ's many qualities is their constant attention to research and development. It was just last month when we showed you OCZ's new XTC heatspreader they had incorporated with their high performance DDR400 memory. Never being one accused of being asleep at the wheel, they have combined their XTC heatspreader with some 5ns Micron memory modules to produce one of the lowest latency two gigabyte DDR500 memory kits ever seen. Boasting memory timings of 3-3-3-8, this memory kit represents an improvement over the last two gig DDR500 memory kit we reviewed with that one having looser timings of 3-4-4-8. While this difference is minimal, the point is the constant drive of OCZ to bring the best they have to market at all times. Today, thanks to the good folks at OCZ Technology, specifically our friend Jess, we are going to have a closer look at this lower latency two gig memory kit. Specifications
Gig Sticks Plus As we already noted, one of the big improvements with OCZ's DDR500 (PC4000) modules is the tightening of memory timings. With the standard of memory size increasing, timings have loosened up to guarantee stability. OCZ has tightened the timings back a bit while guaranteeing stability. They boast that each and every unit coming off their line is 100% hand tested. They back this up with a lifetime warranty to the end user that even goes so far as to include running the voltage as high as 3 volts without the warranty being voided. Below we have a few shots of OCZ's EL PC4000 XTC memory units. The ICs are encased in a platinum XTC heatspreaders with the product's name and specs printed on a label on one end of the DIMM. |
