OCZ EL PC4000 Platinum XTC Memory Kit (2GB) Our old but very reliable P4 Northwood absolutes loves 1:1 increases with the front side bus. After some trial and error of kicking up the FSB and voltage we finally found a stable ceiling for OCZ's Platinum DDR500 of 522MHz (261MHz x 2.) Stable being defined as the system being put under load and running with zero issues for three hours.
Looks like it's time to revisit Sandra and Super Pi.
Below you will see the increases in performance between the OCZ DDR500's
performance and the performance at DDR522.
Conclusion OCZ has succeeded again in bringing together
the latest technologies in a single package for the end user. Adding
their XTC heatspreaders to their two gig kit with tighter timings doesn't
leave much to be desired. The OCZ EL PC4000 XTC memory proved itself to
be rock solid with very good performance. Overclocking showed that the
memory can hold its own but wasn't anything especially awe inspiring.
The only rub we had with this memory was that with many PC4000 memory kits
DDR400 can be had with even tighter memory timings. Given that this is a
two gig kit, we didn't expect to see anything akin to 2-2-2-5 but we would be
remiss if we didn't point out that the 3-3-3-8 memory timings were the limit
of what could be had. Even with the speed set to DDR400, 3-3-3-8 was the
wall. All things considered, the OCZ EL PC4000 memory
kit with the XTC memory heatspreaders is a worthwhile upgrade for anyone doing
some two gig memory shopping. Performance, stability and a competitive
price all come together here to put this RAM on the short list of any gamer or
enthusiast. Pros Two gigabytes of memory Lifetime warranty even
overvolted Very good performance OCZ's XTC heatspreaders Competitively priced Cons Would not run at DDR400 speed
with tighter timings
