OCZ EL PC2-5400 Gold Edition Memory Kit (1GB) When OCZ claims that the heatspreaders are "Gold Mirrored", they aren't kidding about the mirrored part. These things are so polished that getting good pics of them without a lot of reflections was a considerable task. On one side of the heatspreaders is a sticker which displays the memory's speed and timings. With timings of 4-4-4-8, these are a bit tighter than the Corsair PC2-5400 that we've been using in our DDR2 test bed. Testing Ok, so now we've seen all the pretty pictures, it's time to see just how well OCZ's Gold Edition stands up to the heat. We'll be using our Foxconn 955X7AA motherboard to help provide us with that information. Test Setup:
In our BIOS, we've got two memory speed options, 533MHz and 667MHz. Since the memory is rated for 667MHz, we're going to start with that and push upwards. We know the CPU that we're using will hit 243MHz on a FSB speed, so we should be ok there. And of course we loosened the timings to 5-5-5-15 and upped the voltage as much as the motherboard would allow to 2.0V. To test system stability, we'll be running PC Mark 05 and SiSoft Sandra at each adjustment for a couple of hours. Well, I can honestly say that this some awesome memory. We hit a top end of a whopping 796MHz (397 * 2) on the memory frequency with complete stability. |
