by Brian Tiller (9/9/2004)

Introduction

Albatron has been in the motherboard business since 2002 and in that time, they have established a reputation for a well rounded and stable motherboard producer. Always ready to be at the forefront of changing technology, they don't hesitate to embrace new CPU designs and chipsets. Thanks to that attitude, we have the opportunity to review the Mars PX915P Pro Mainboard based on the i915 Grantsdale chipset.

While the package is designed to be eye-catching on a store shelf, the important part is what's on the inside so let's grab a look see at the specifications. (But you gotta admit, the box is way cool.)

Specifications:

  • Northbridge: Intel 915 Grantsdale chipset

  • Southbridge: Intel ICH6

  • LGA775 Prescott CPU

  • Dual onboard LAN: Marvell MV8001 Gb LAN Controller/VIA VT6105 Mb LAN Controller

  • Realtek 8-channel Onboard Audio

  • S/PDIF Interface

  • ITE IT8212F RAID Controller

  • Dual Channel DDR400 (up to 4 GB)

  • (1) PCI Express x16

  • (2) PCI Express x1

  • (3) PCI

  • (8) USB 2.0 ports

  • Two RAID IDE slots for RAID 0, 1 and 1+0

  • (4) SATA ports

I guess you could say that this motherboard has a few features. I especially like the dual LAN capabilities.
