Foxconn WinFast 6150K8MA Mainboard BIOS Foxconn has selected the very familiar Phoenix Award BIOS for its 6150K8MA board. The layout of this BIOS is almost second nature to many of us but let’s have a look around all the same. First up is Foxconn’s SuperBoot, SuperBIOS Protect, SuperRecovery and SuperSpeed options under the BIOS features tab. SuperBoot is the system going through POST (Power On Self Test) only on the initial boot but not subsequent resets without powering down. SuperBIOS Protect: Uses hardware/software double BIOS lock technology to keep bad things from happening that may hose your BIOS. SuperRecovery: Working through a hidden BIOS partition, SuperRecovery protects and can recover some drive data to thwart viruses and problems caused by users in educational settings. SuperSpeed: Sets system speed via a jumperless user friendly interface. The SuperSpeed option is where we find many of the options you need/want for overclocking your rig. The first of these is the CPU frequency allowing changes from 200 ~ 300MHz. Now the stepping is a bit awkward. From 200 ~ 210MHz it is in 0.5MHz increments; from 210 ~ 230MHz is kicks up to 1MHz increments; from 230 ~ 248MHz frequency adjustments are in 2MHz increments (here comes the weird part) then from 248 ~ 300MHz it kicks back to 1MHz changes. I'm sure this will be addressed in the next BIOS update however. The other items of note under the SuperSpeed tab are the PCI-E, VDIMM and VCore voltage adjustments as you can see below. The Advanced Chipset Features screen brings a lot of options to the table. Aside from memory we also have adjustments for the HyperTransport speed /bandwidth between the CPU/Chipsets. The Frame Buffer size for the onboard video lives here giving you the option of 16, 32, 64 or 128megs.
The last item in the BIOS we are going to look at is the PC Health Status screen which is self explanatory. Personally, I would have liked to seen an adjustable PC Warning Temp trip point here but you can't have everything. Pg 1 -
