Foxconn WinFast NF4K8MC nForce4 Mainboard

Board Layout

As we noted in the introduction, the Foxconn NF4K8MC is a micro ATX sized motherboard. Measuring only 9.6" x 9.6", space is at a premium but Foxconn has done a nice job with the layout.

Since this is the first Socket 939 motherboard I've had my hands on, I was pleasantly surprised by the solid construction of the heatsink mounting brackets on the board. It is quite a bit sturdier than Intel's Socket 478 bracket.

While we don't currently have any after market heatsinks for this board, the capacitors to the side of the CPU should be low enough not to interfere with the mounting of most aftermarket heatsinks.

On the other side of the CPU socket are the two DIMM slots for the board.

Past the two DIMMs, the 24-pin ATX connector is grouped together with both ATA connections and the FDD connection.

Four SATA connections are located just below alongside the active cooling fan for the nForce4 chip.

And just south of these are the two USB connections sitting beside the front panel connections. Unfortunately, the front panel connections are not labeled, so you will be pulling the book out anytime you want to hook this up.

Moving across the board, we take a look at the PCI-Express x16 slot.

In the pic directly above, is the PCI-Express x1 slot. With all of the Intel 915/925 based boards that I've seen, the PCI-Express x1 slots are below the PCI-Express x16.

Finally we have a shot of the rear ports. Along with the USB headers on the motherboard, these rear USB ports brings the total count up to eight, which is pretty good for a micro ATX budget priced motherboard.

And of course what motherboard these days would be complete without the onboard LAN and audio.
