VIA KT400 Based Mainboard Roundup

Tyan Trinity S2495
Street price: $105

Tyan entered our fray with their Trinity S2495.  The Trinity represents the most feature rich board of the bunch and still on the inexpensive side even with all the features it offers.  Let’s look at some specs.

  • Northbridge:  VIA KT400

  • Southbridge:  VIA VT8235

  • On board LAN:  VIA VT6103 PHY 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet controller

  • On board Audio:  ALC650 6 Channel AC97 audio CODEC

  • SPDIF output connector

  • IDE:  Dual IDE channels for ATA133

  • Serial ATA:  Silicon Image 3112 controller – two ports (optional)

  • Integrated I/O:  One floppy connector, six USB 2.0 ports (four external accesses, two internal), One IrDA connector

  • AGP:  One AGP 8X slot

  • PCI:  Six PCI slots

What you get:

The Tyan package includes the Trinity S2495 mainboard, Driver and Utility CD, Installation disks for High Point IDE RAID Driver, SATA RAID Driver, IDE ribbon cables, installation manual, and rear I/O output panel.  The Tyan manual was outstanding.  It is filled with oversized pictures marked exceeding well, to make installation a breeze.  I want to underscore this, the manual is put together THAT GOOD.  Fantastic job Tyan!
