Aspire Chameleon Series 550w Power Supply

Manufacturer: Aspire USA
Supplied by: Aspire USA
Price: TBA

By Dean Barker (1/14/2005)

Aspire USA is mainly recognized as the maker of some very unique and interesting PC computer chassis.  The X-Navigator, X-Alien, X-Super Alien, X-Sonic and the X-Pider to name just a few.  (They are big on the ‘X’ as you can see.)  In addition to their case line, they also produce a variety of pre-modded power supply units laden with LED fans, UV reactive cables and braided lines.  Today, we are fortunate enough to have their latest power supply unit styled the Chameleon up on our bench.  Being named the Chameleon is quite an appropriate labeling as the PSU allows the user to change the LED lighting inside to any one of three colors.  This is something that promises to have a big draw on the LAN crowd and case mod community.  Let’s take a look at Aspire’s newest creation and see what we can see.

  • Observed Dimensions: 145 x 150 x 85mm

  • Power output: 550 watts

  • Observed weight: 1.7kg

  • Color: Black

  • Cooling: Single 120mm LED fan with color selection switch and adjustable rheostat

  • (2) Native SATA connectors

  • (8) Molex connector

  • (2) FDD connectors

  • All lines wrapped with green UV reactive braiding

  • All connectors constructed of green UV reactive plastic

What you get

Normally with any power supply purchase you get, well… a power supply.  Aspire has added a bit to the package to include a blue LED 120mm fan and four chrome thumb screws in which to mount the PSU within your case.

Immediately upon removing the Chameleon from its packaging you notice that five of its six sides are vented.  The bottom section with a large color changing 120mm LED fan and the sides with perforation other the bulk of their surface area.
