Introduction

Corsair has been at the forefront of memory technology for as long as I can remember.  For most, Corsair is the first choice for performance memory products and it’s no wonder.  A most recent example why would be their bringing DDR550 and low latency (2-2-2-5) DDR400 to market.  Not only did they do this before other memory makers but as other competitive products did become available, they would trounce the competition every time in head to head challenges.  With all this said, I have questioned on many occasions why they hadn’t produced a thumb drive or other flash drive product.  ‘Has Not’ and ‘Do Not’ aren’t words Corsair likes.  Today, we have the Corsair Flash Voyager up on the bench.  Effectively a sharp looking thumb drive available in sizes from 128mb up to 1gb, Corsair looks to bring its long experience to bear on this market segment.  Let’s start out with the white paper.

What you get

The Flash Voyager comes in a clear shaped plastic package.  Aside from the Corsair Flash Voyager, you get a small blue and white lanyard for carrying the device around your neck if you choose, a 27 inch USB extension cable and a Windows 98 driver disk.  The lanyard and extension cable are nice extras but we are mainly interested in the unit itself.

The Drive

Corsair’s coloring of the Flash Voyager gives it the panache’ to draw and keep your attention.  The black/blue exterior of the unit is not paint, it is a rubber coating.  I’m not exactly sure why you would need a non-slip grip on a flash drive but the Flash Voyager has it.  It would also make sense that this rubber outer covering would lessen the potential for any impact damage from being dropped, banged around, etc.

As you can see above, one side of the unit is labeled with its name in bright raised rubber yellow letters in addition to having a raised rubber Corsair logo on the cap.  Flipping things over, Corsair’s web address is likewise noticeably marked in raised rubber letters.
