Enermax 460W Whisper Series PSU

The cabling

Now we get into part of what makes and Enermax an Enermax, the cables. Known for their long cables, Enermax didn't skimp on this one either. At 30 inches long these 4-pin Molex cables are long enough to reach pretty much anywhere in any size case.

And as you can see with eight 4-pin Molex connectors there's plenty to go around. I like it, but of course Dean would say "cable clutter".

Now take a look at this. The main power connector, P4 connection and the Aux power connector are all shielded in this cool looking silver tubing to help reduce EMI (electro magnetic interference).

There is a downside to this however. By providing this extra shielding they have also made these cables very stiff. Winding these things around inside your case, especially in a smaller case, is going to be somewhat difficult, so have some patience.

Remember when I said that there were eight 4-pin connectors? Well, Enermax has included a ninth one all wrapped up nice and neat with the P4 and Aux connectors. Take a look.

Once again we'll head to Enermax's site for a better look. What I found nice about this particular connector is that the wires seem to be thicker and there is definitely more insulation surrounding it.

The last thing we'll look at before taking the PSU for a few laps is the temperature probe. It comes out of the PSU along with all the other cables, but only extends for about four inches.

The probe runs through the PSU to the exhaust fan. As the temperature in the case rise, the exhaust fan will increase in speed. Pretty standard stuff here, but I wanted to point it out since Enermax is billing this as a 'Quiet' PSU.

Testing

Once again to test it, I'll use the Asus PC Probe and a volt/amp meter to back up the findings. To be honest I use the PC Probe because I can take a screen shot of that easier than I can take pics of the volt meter itself (I've told you my camera isn't that great). To put the system under a load I'll run Folding@Home as well as SETI@Home, not to mention quite a few devices.
