Kingwin Triple Fan 450 watt ATX PSU Cracking open the casing (I love cutting the "void if removed" decals!) Two medium sized gold heatsinks show themselves. But what got my attention was that the case fans were clear. You can almost see the neon in there now. Talk about something begging to be modded. Here is where I'm going to take some heat from some of you. You guys with four foot tall tower cases just skip to the next paragraph right here. Many higher rated power supplies' power connector lines are just too long. Enermax line lengths come immediately to mind. This is nice if you need it but for standard towers and midtowers you end up with way too much extra wire to wrap up and get out of the way. In the picture below, I have an Enermax 431 in my right hand and the Kingwin 450 in the other. Each unit is being held by it's ATX connector. From PSU case to the tip of longest connector measured 49 inches on the Enermax where the Kingwin measured 36 inches. As far as connectors go, you have three strands of standard power connectors with ten Molex connectors and two FDD connectors. Let's check out the 12V, 5V, and 3.3V of the Kingwin unit with our handy Radio Shack Multimeter to make sure it cuts the mustard.
Conclusion The triple fan setup is a nice feature, especially for those of you without blow holes in your case. I tried to find a case around here with the standard 80mm case fan up front and nothing else so we could do some temperature testing. But this wasn't in the cards. The only case we had anywhere close to this, bit the Dremel dust several months back. I'll venture that the case temperature would be reduced by using a triple fan PSU like this but I can't speculate on how much. The manual and auto speed settings on the fans are also a nice feature that may or may not matter to you. However, once you get over 30 or 35 years old the ability to turn the speed (and NOISE) of anything down is appreciated. Finally, this baby is begging to get some neon strapped up in there or get some neon fans installed. With 450 watts you have some power to burn, so why not. Thanks again to the good folks at Kingwin for sending this fine product over. XPC Gear has Kingwin PSU in stock now. Pros
