Sunbeam Nuuo 550w Power Supply SLI

The unit

The Nuuo is offered in 450 and 550w models as we already noted and is also offered in either of two color schemes; silver or blued steel (aka gunmetal).  I want to point out that our test unit is the gunmetal color as the lighting we had made the unit look a bit lighter than it actually is.  Accented with black connection points and finger guards the Nuuo has a clean and professional look.  The bottom of the unit sports a 120mm intake fan that moves a large volume of air without much noise.  The rear exhaust is handled by an 80mm fan.  Both of these are controlled by internal thermal probes that increases their speed based on need.  The 80mm fan speed can also be controlled manually with the included 3.5" bay rheostat.

Here you can get a better look at the eight modular connection ports of the Nuuo.  In my book, modular power supplies are the only way to go as you can use as many or as few power lines as you see fit.  This keeps cable management simple and clean.

On the far left of the unit in the pic above, you can see five smaller connection ports.  The top two are thermal probe connections for display on the 3.5" bay insert panel (only one reading is displayed - not both.)  The connection below the top two is a standard 3-pin power connector.  The purpose of this is so a third case fan (not included) may be attached and have its speed controlled by running in direct relation to the smart 120mm fan in Nuuo.  The last two are the connection points for the LCD rheostat panel we have referenced so many times already.  The bottom most port of these two is for the rear 80mm and the one above it for the 120mm fan inside the Nuuo.  One or the other may be connected depending on what the end user wants.  Sunbeam does not recommend hooking up the 120mm fan to their rheo panel as its speed is (or can be) better governed by the internal thermal probe that auto adjusts its speed setting.

In all the power supply reviews we have done in the past, I've never had the need to focus on cables like here with the Nuuo.  All the cables are covered in a black mesh except for the PCI-E line and the 600mm single Molex connector lines.  Both of these were covered in a light black plastic EMI shielding.  Notice the connectors themselves.  It's hard not to like the easy grip connectors.  The forth picture below shows you some of the other cables; the PCI-E adapter cable, FDD cable with two FDD connectors and the 12v 4/8-pin cable (8-pin for adhering to the EPS form factor - I had to ask too.)
