Thermaltake TWV480 Power Supply/Wattage Viewer

When looking more closely at the TWV480 PSU we DID run about everything we had in addition to plugging and unplugging extra LED fans and other things to try and disrupt the power flow.  The TWV480 gave us clean stable power no matter what we threw at it, never going out of spec for its power delivery.  Below is a screen shot of the ABIT EQ monitor giving you a snapshot of what we were seeing.  We confirmed the voltage readings by hand using a Multimeter.

Conclusion

As expected, the Thermaltake TWV480 PSU kit impressed us with features and its attention to detail.  The PSU itself, gave us plenty of Molex connectors and the length of line to put them to use.  The two SATA power plugs are also an excellent addition as SATA is becoming the standard most people are moving to when upgrading hard drives.  The color coded cable sleeving is an always welcome aesthetic touch.  Cooling was more than adequate and the ability to have the PSU be cooled automatically or manually is another feature showing Thermaltake's attention to detail.

The TWV display did what it was supposed to.  While I had no way to verify that the wattage usage it reported was correct, I had no reason to distrust it.  This display very well could be useful in helping you identify problems down the road given the power requirements of some of the new VGA cards coupled with the LED and fan laden modded cases many of us are so proud of.

The only concern we had was not being exactly sure of the TWV480's pricing and availability.  We fully expect to see it available to the general public in the next month.  When that time comes, the TWV480 will make another excellent upgrade option for many and the wattage use viewer only adds icing to the cake.

Pros

  • High wattage PSU

  • Sleeved color coded power cables

  • Automatic and manual PSU fan speed control

  • Automatic and manual fan speed control for independent 80mm fan

  • SATA power connectors on PSU

  • TWV Display Panel is aesthetically pleasing and very functional

  • Extra 80mm fan included

Cons

  • Pricing and availability questionable at present.
