Thermaltake XJOG USB Fan/Light Accessories The fan/light unit has its LED mounted on the underside of the fan motor housing. Also resting here is a three position switch, light/fan-on, light on only and fan on only. The same synthetic material is used on the fan's impeller. The dual LED light model is just that; two LEDs controlled by a simple on/off switch. The last unit is a clip on LED model. This one comes with a small plastic carrying case for easy storage in a notebook case. A simple two position inline switch controls power. It attaches via a plastic clip that is designed for clipping on to the outside of your laptop screen or your shirt if you want to be extra geek. The LED is mounted on a ball socket joint that gives you the ability to point it most anywhere you like. In the second shot below you can see an example of how the clip is attached to a notebook. The included carrying case holds everything nice and tidy. The cord folds in for the box to be closed which it did so without difficulties. Now let's plug all these rascals in and see what they look like under power. Let's take a look at each of these in action. I pointed the LEDs so that the fan impellers were illuminated in a non-copyright infringing on Antec way. Here is a shot with everything on and pointed at the keyboard of my laptop. It is surprising how much light these things put off. The lights are offered in blue or white but if you have a practical need for the light, the white looks to be more useful. Conclusion The applicability of the XJOG will really depend on the specific needs of the end user in question. Thermaltake looks to be marketing these devices for the desktop and the laptop crowd. I really can't see much desire coming from desktop folks for these. But, as for myself, the fan plugged into the back of my laptop made life much nicer. I'm one of those people who like to feel air moving on my face whenever possible. The LED lights were able to give off much more light than I expected and Thermaltake should be applauded for the brightness of the LEDs they selected. Speaking of the lights, even though blue is offered, I really think the white is infinitely more usable. Oftentimes I am working in a lowlight environment where the LED will prove very handy. Evening and redeye plane trips come immediately to mind. Unfortunately, I do not have the MSRP for these units at present. Provided that they are priced reasonably, I think we have shown you some accessories you could be very happy with. |
