Tweakmonster EL Window Appliqués Manufacturer: Tweakmonster by Dean Barker 3/26/2003 Introduction The Tweakmonster has been putting out PC EL type items for a while now. He started the whole neon lightstrip craze that allowed the end user options for modding not previously available. Well, now he has taken his lightstrips one step further. He has combined the basic idea of window appliqués to his lightstrips, ending up with a lighted appliqué. This is another of those logical ideas that you can't believe no one thought of before. But, someone had to be first. Let's take a look at these nifty little items. Presently, five units are available; Biohazard, Alien, AMD logo, Radioactive, and Atomic as shown below. The appliqués are all roughly 100 x 100 mm with the exception of the AMD logo which is about 85 x 75mm. Flipping the unit over we see the general principle of how it works. The silver area is the filament that lights up. This gets its power from a small converter that is about 55 x 35 x 20mm in size. Just small enough to be tucked away most anywhere. I want to emphasize most anywhere because of the length of line from the provided appliqué's connector. We are talking just shy of 10 feet! With 10 feet of line, I could install the converter in one PC and the appliqué in another. The appliqué's converter has a 4-pin Molex connector for power but you can run off any 12 volt DC source. This means you can even stick them in your car as the Tweakmonster points out on his site. Installation is straight forward with the front of the appliqué having double sided tape on its four corners (under the brown in the pic above.) Peel these back and stick it. I used some automotive tape I had lying around to secure the converter behind a mobo tray in our test box which today is a Lian Li PC-6089.
