Fun with Fans!

Supplier: Xoxide
Price: $4

By Dean Barker (6/07/2003)

Sometimes products will come along that are just fun to play with.  Xoxide sent a surprise box over with these UV LED fans.  Just looking at these I know we're going to have fun.  The fans are translucent plastic blades and casings that come in a variety of color combinations.  These colors are accented more by the tri-LED lamps that are inside the fan case.  These fans are marked as UV reactive but the brightness of the LEDs obscures any luminescence a UV light would produce.  The power lines coming off the fans are silver wrapped which makes for clean and easy running of wires in your case.  Pretty sharp looking to boot.

Quickly, here are the color combinations available.  Blue on blue, Orange on green, Green on orange...

Green on green, Orange on blue, Blue on orange...

and lastly, Green on blue.

Let’s have some quick specs before we play.

  • Dimensions: 80 x 80 x 25mm

  • Air Flow: 34 CFM

  • Fan Speed: 2600 RPM

  • Sound level: 30 dBa

  • Voltage:12 VDC

Firing these puppies up provided more than a little eye candy.

The next question was what to with them.  Placement in windowed cases comes to mind immediately but I was more interested in a cooling application…

Attaching these rascals one on top the next and strapping the lot onto a ThermalRight SLK-800 didn’t affect the cooling one way or the other but it sure looked hip.  The first of the two pics above gives you an idea of the light they put off.  You could read by it.  No more tripping getting out of bed to use the bathroom at night for me!

All you case mod types have your wheels turning now.  These UV LED case fans are the something different you may be looking for.  These fans are priced right at $4 a hit now over at Xoxide, so have at it.
