Every so often someone will put out a gizmo kit of some form or fashion that strikes the nail squarely on the head.  Last time Sidewinder Computers started playing with wire they put out the RPM cable.  They put this out long before it was seen with products off the shelf and really they were one of, if not the first, to produce them.  This time around, instead of a wire gizmo, it is a wire cover gizmo they have come up with.  Those of you who are especially observant will notice that in our heatsink reviews the fan power cables are always twisted together neatly.  They don’t come that way.  I do that here because the loose wire look drives me nuts.  One of the more aesthetically pleasing things about the Swiftech heatsinks is the way the fan power cables are enclosed in a mesh with sections of shrink wrap at each end.  A very clean look indeed.  Sidewinder Computers has put out a kit containing a 9 ¾ inch (247mm) piece of mesh hose, a Molex connector kit, and two 7/8” (22mm) sections of red shrink wrap for you obsessive-compulsive types like me to bind and sleeve those exposed wires.

Installation was quite simple.  You cut off the existing connector, fish on the hose and shrink wrap, reattach the wires you clipped, apply some heat and Blam-O, you have a first rate looking power line.  Gary from Sidewinder sent over two of these little kits.  We decided to put one on our Alpha PAL8045 and the other on our Akasa Silver Mountain.  As you can see in the pictures below, installation is simple and quick.

Tell me this won’t look hip through your case window under a neon glow.  I’m thinking the Tt Chrome ORB power cable is going to get this treatment next here in the Penthouse Labs.

You can buy all the parts you need to do this yourself at home but with Sidewinder selling the kits for $2.50 a unit or 5 for $10 you really can’t go wrong.  Thanks again out to Sidewinder Computers for sending these over.
