Thermaltake Xaser Bag LAN Gear
By Dean Barker (8/27/2003)
Introduction Several varieties of case/gear bags are currently on the market offering a range of features. Our favorite bag from a standpoint of price and utility over the past year and a half has been the X-Bag. This product has been arguably the best of the commercially available carriers around. Thermaltake is hoping to further open up the scope of their product line with their entry in this market with the Xaser Bag. Priced at $27, it offers utility and function for all us LAN goers. Let's take a closer look at the Xaser Bag. Two models of the Xaser Bag are offered. Both have adjustable length webbing to provide a range of case sizes it may carry. The first of the two is the A1700 (which we have here) which is designed for midtower and larger cases. Thermaltake's chassis size recommendation is 520 x 205 x 480mm thru 520 x 205 x 570mm (H x W x D). A slightly smaller model is provided with the A1877. This unit is designed for midtower to smaller cases. Thermaltake's chassis size recommendations for the A1877 are 440 x 180 x 460mm thru 430 x 192 x 540mm (H x W x D). Keep in mind that "recommended" does not mean limited to but rather these are the sizes it fits best. Both models carry the same maximum weight limit which is 30 kg give or take. Not many of us are actually willing to haul around a 30 kg box unless you have a desire to have forearms like Popeye. Both models are priced within a dollar of one another. A Closer Look Looking at the Xaser Bag laid out shows us how easy it is to use. Something I do want to point our here is the portability of the Xaser Bag when its not wrapped around a case. Unlike the X-Bag which is a little awkward to store when not in use; the Xaser Bag folds up nice and neat to be tucked away until needed.
